Day 31-Not Finished

"Oh, my what happened to you?

I'm not finished."

....from the movie Edward Scissorhands

One last quote. And I've chosen a little bit of a strange movie, since it is October 31st and all.

And yes, it is a Johnny Depp movie.

This is Frankensteinlike story of a person named Edward played by Johnny Depp created by an inventor, played by the one and only Vincent Price. The inventor dies before finishing his creation, leaving Edward with scissors for hands. He continues to live alone until one day a door to door Avon representative (Peg) finds him and decides to bring him home with her to live.

Just like the story of Frankenstein, things don't go well with Edward living among people.

The quote is said in the beginning of the movie when Peg first finds him. She asks what happened to him and Edward answers "I'm not finished."

For Edward not being finished turned out to be a bad thing. Without normal hands, he is unable to do the simplest of things, like dress himself. He also is unable to get close to anyone physically without running the risk of injuring them.

For us, we can rely on what scripture says about our completion.

Philippians 1:6(NLT) And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

God has promised that the work he started with us, will be completed.

Even if it takes until the day Jesus returns to do it.

In the meantime, He is constantly at work in our lives. Teaching and guiding, giving knowledge and wisdom always to fulfill his calling and plan for our lives.

As long as we continue to abide in Him, we don't have to worry about being abandoned in an incomplete state.

When we utter the words, "I'm not finished" it isn't negative.
For us, it is a hopeful statement.

Because if he isn't finished with us, then we can take joy in the fact that no matter what state we are in, or how much we mess up, eventually we will be all we are meant to be.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by and read these posts. I hope you were inspired in a way that is new for you.
I hope that we have gained some new insight into seeing God at work around you.

There is still time to enter the drawing. Just leave a comment on this post, and on everyone post for the whole month.

Day 30-RUN!

This is not about going back.
This is about life being ahead of you and you run at it!
Because you never know how far you can run unless you run.
--from the movie Secretariat

This is a wonderfully inspiration movie. Some of the opening lines are actually quoted right from the Bible. This video clip is the trailer for the movie. Towards the end she says part of the quote from above. I couldn't find a clip of just that quote. But the trailer is inspirational even without hearing the exact quote.

“Have you given the horse its strength
or clothed its neck with a flowing mane?
Did you give it the ability to leap like a locust?
    Its majestic snorting is terrifying!
It paws the earth and rejoices in its strength
when it charges out to battle.
It laughs at fear and is unafraid.
It does not run from the sword.
 The arrows rattle against it,
and the spear and javelin flash.
 It paws the ground fiercely
and rushes forward into battle when the ram’s horn blows.
It snorts at the sound of the horn.
It senses the battle in the distance.
It quivers at the captain’s commands and the noise of battle."
Job 39:19-25

Penny Chenery wasn't afraid to take a chance on a horse everyone said couldn't win.
She didn't care that people thought she was incapable because she was "just a housewife".
We can't live life afraid. Moving forward is impossible when we are weighed down by fear.
We don't "live" at all, when we allow ourselves to stay stagnant out of fear.
If we never venture out, and run how will we ever know what we are capable of, where we can go, what we can do?
When I first thought about writing the thought of putting my words out there for people to see was terrifying...it still is. But if I never tried I would never know if I could. The worst thing anyone can do , is to not do something in life. The things left undone are what we will regret most when we see our savior.

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us

As usual, if you haven't seen this movie, I would say you should.

Day 29-Don't Cry Alone

Today's quote comes the ultimate in women's friendship movies

Steel Magnolias.

The line is spoken by Truvy, Dolly Parton's character and it epitomizes what friendship is all about. Especially women friendships.

If you don't have a bunch of Steel Magnolia friends I urge you to get some. I myself have the best Steel Magnolia friends anyone could ask for. They know who they are and I dedicate this quote and this post to them.

"I have a strict policy that nobody cries alone in my presence"...........

Galatians 6:2 (NLT) Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.

Day 28-First Knight

Today's quote comes from the movie First Knight. It's the story of King Arthur and Camelot and it stars Sean Connery, Julia Ormond, and Richard Gere.

"There are laws that enslave men, and laws that set them free."

The idea that we can be a slave to one law and be set free by another law, immediately brought me to Paul and the book of Romans.

Romans 6:14 (NLT) Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.

The "law" Paul is referring to here are the requirements God put onto the Jews in the Old Testament. These "laws" brought to light man's true sinful nature and the abundance of sinfulness in their life.
Christ's sacrifice set us free from the try hard life of obeying the "law". Belief in Jesus, gives us the power to turn away from sin, therefore we are free, no longer slaves to our sinful nature as we were before Christ.

It can be a little complicated, I know.

That's why the quote is so powerful. It states it very simply.

Just an FYI - It's been a long time since I've seen this movie, but it is still, in my opinion, one of the best versions of this story ever made into a film.

You can also leave a comment on the Blockbuster Inspiration Facebook page for an extra entry in the drawing.

Here is today's quote. It comes from the movie Cast Away starring Tom Hanks. Next to Leo and Johnny Depp, my next favorite actor is Tom Hanks. I found a clip with the quote in it for you to watch. Again, I think the video clips make a bigger impact.
The line is said right in the beginning of the clip, so if you don't want to watch the whole thing you don't have to.

"Here we go Wilson, you don't have to worry about anything, I'll do all the paddling....you just hang on."

Job 23:14 (NLT) So he will do to me whatever he has planned.
    He controls my destiny.

No matter what we think, God is in complete control. Everything we do is within his realm.
We are only along for the ride.

Day 26-Not Rejected

“Oh Rhett, if you leave where shall I go, what shall I do?”

“Frankly my dear I don't give a damn."

Jeremiah 31:36 (NLT)“I am as likely to reject my people Israel as I am to abolish the laws of nature!”

In the final scene of the movie Gone With the Wind, Scarlet O’Hara realizes she loves Rhett Butler. But it’s too late. He has waited for her to come to her senses for a long time and now instead of accepting her love, he rejects and abandons her; not really the “happy ending” you would expect.

Can you imagine the sadness Scarlet felt, professing her love, only to be rejected? Unfortunately, in this world there are no guarantees. We may love, but there is always a chance our Rhett Butler will not love us in return.

Thankfully, God is not Rhett Butler.

In fact he is just the opposite. God will never tire of waiting for us to turn to him. We may drag our feet, or reason that we don’t need Him. We may even take the attitude of “someday I’ll get around to God.” None of that matters.  His love for us is capable of withstanding our indecision, reasoning, and procrastination.  He will never reject us.

The day we finally realize that He is all we need, will be one of rejoicing, not sadness. When we profess our love for Him, He will welcome us into His loving embrace with open arms.

Unlike what happened to Scarlet, our story will have a happy ending.

Day 25-The Bear Inside

We are in the home stretch with our 31 Days of Blockbuster Inspiration.

If you have been stopping by everyday thank you. I hope you have been blessed and inspired by what you have read here.

Today's quote comes from a movie called Legends of the Fall. It features Brad Pitt, Aiden Quinn, Anthony Hopkins and Julia Ormond.

It is a difficult to give you a description of this movie. What I can say is it is about family relationships and it centers around two brothers, their father, and a woman.

I went through a big Anthony Hopkins phase in the 90's, not that it was hard to see a lot of his movies then, he seemed to be everywhere in the 90's.

LOL

Here is the line:

"I think it was the bear, growling inside him. Making him do bad things. Nothing that Tristan did was truly his own fault. It was the bear..."

Romans 7:20 (NASB)

"But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me."
